Since the invention of the Eirich mixing principle over 80 years ago, the worldwide refractories industry has been a core market for Gustav Eirich Maschinenfabrik, the Hardheim-based engineering companay in Germany (http://www.eirich.com/en/mixer-intensive-mixer).

The ECREF European Centre for Refractories gem. GmbH as science supporting institution of the German Refractories Association aims to encourage young academics and effectively publicize their knowledge with this contest of excellence.

You can apply with:

• Your dissertation for a Ph.D. degree
• and/or individual research with a scientific content equal to that of a dissertation for a  Ph.D. degree e.g. habilitation, post-doc work.

Please state exactly launching and finish date of the work within the CV form.
The work should have been completed no longer than two years ago.                              Also the participation is only once allowed.

Your work should cover one of the following refractory topics:

• raw materials
• materials and components
• application technologies
• creativity
• innovation

Topics concerning the studies of materials subsumed under the term "high-temperature materials" of, in the future, under the term "modern refractories" are also welcomed.

The Jury evaluate the contribution after following perspectives:

• Discussion of environmental aspects incl. consideration of sustainability
• Discussion of energy and other resources
• Potential for significant impacts incl. lining lifetime
• Design and modelling for practical applications
• Processing aspects within application technologies
• Conclusion concerning requirement specification

To apply for the Gustav-Eirich-Award, please submit:

• A curriculum vita

• A copy of your Ph.D. certificate, which shows the date you were awarded your Ph.D.
• An abstract of your Ph.D. thesis according to the following rules:
  
  • Max. 4 pages
  • English language
  • A4 or letter format
  • Font size not smaller than 10 pt.
• To be eligible for the "Gustav-Eirich-Award", your abstract has to address at least one of the topics listed above.
• Please submit all documents as individual PDF files. You may bundle them in a ZIP archive if you wish

1st Price: € 3.000,-

2nd Price: € 2.000,-

3rd Price: € 1.000,-

Winners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd price will be able to present their paper as invited lecture during the award ceremony at the annual ICR International Colloquium on Refractories in Aachen, Germany. The placement of the winners will be announced at the award ceremony.

The winners will be reimbursed for their travel to the award ceremony at the ICR International Colloquium on Refractories in Aachen, Germany including one hotel overnight stay and free entrance to the ICR International Colloquium on Refractories.

The Gustav Eirich Award is awarded since 2009.
